Graeme Wight Jnr once more took maximum points from Shelsley Walsh today with two wins, but the highpoint for many over the weekend was just a lovely way to enjoy motor sport in the English countryside. The sun shone and the cars were fast. The Ferraris were noisy and the 2002 Le Mans MG car was a handful, but it went up with its lights on just as it did last June down the Mulsanne straight. Kevin McGarrity wowed everyone with the immense turbo charged horsepower of the car that certainly filled the road. I dont think all of the wheels are on the ground at the same time when I go through the Bottom Ess as it was designed for something completely different, but I have really enjoyed coming here and experiencing the atmosphere of Shelsley Walsh.

Eight records were taken by Robert Kenrick in the 1400 Mod Prod class, Mark Butler in the unlimited Mod Prod class, Keith Murray in the Quattro, Dave Kimberley in the 2 litre racing Caterham, Roy Standley in the over 2 litre road going class for saloon cars and Mark Budgett who took 0.72 seconds off the 1100 cc record with the first ever sub 28 second run. Ian Fidoe took the 2 litre sports car record and Graeme Wight Jnr got the unlimited capacity single seater record.

Tim Mason failed to qualify for the first run off when a rear wheel came off in between the Esses, but ironically it helped Graeme Wight Jnr repair a broken driveshaft in the time it took for the Mason wheel to be reattached and he qualified to go on for a win and of course the lead of the championship. Irony indeed, but the Scotsman did appreciate the quirk of fate that had fallen his way.

A fantastic weekend for all of the competitors and spectators in perfect weather conditions throughout the two days. The crowd was well up on the numbers of a normal British Championship meeting at the hill, although not quite as high as last years tremendously successful MAC 100 gathering.
