Business as usual at Barbon with Adam Fleetwood adding another outright record to his list, having been pressed all the way by Graeme Wight.
Wight had qualified for the first run off with a class record 21.02 but that was immediately bettered by an Adam Fleetwood 20.99 as they both approached David Grace¹s 4 year old record of 20.86. Roger Fleetwood took an early lead with a 21.83 and it took another 6 cars before that was bettered by Martin Groves (despite a twitch into the fast Richmond bend in his newly painted light blue Gould) and then Roger Moran. An in form Willem Toet (sharing his car with Ben Butterfield this weekend) took the lead down to 21.38 before the Big 2. Wight set the pace with a 20.92 but Adam Fleetwood blitzed yet another record with a 20.51 after a 128 mph approach to the Lafone Hairpin.
The second run off saw the first eight cars to run covered by just 0.27 secs. Willem Toet put in another fast one to take the lead down to 21.27 before the Wight/Fleetwood show. This time Adam was first after Graeme had secured the class win and he set the pace with a 20.80 that ended up just out of Graeme¹s reach. So again, Adam was the only man to score the extra point for going under the old record.
Honourable mentions go to Phil Cooke for breaking Tim Barrington¹s 12 year old 1600 class record and Tom New, just missing out on both run offs at 13th fastest. Willem Toet obviously enjoyed his pair of third places.
Many thanks to Richard Jones for the report.
Thanks to Paul Batram for the pictures.
